There are a number of ways where you can learn how to drive efficiently such as going to a driving school, taking an online traffic school course, or having a friend or a family member teach you. Before you begin driving, you will want to make sure you know the traffic laws first and how to actually drive out on the street, for this information you will want to look for a good online traffic school in San Juan Capistrano, CA.

Getting Started

Normally, when you are getting started with driving you, will want to find either a street that is not busy or an empty parking lot where you can safely practice the proper techniques of driving. Generally, it is better to learn how to drive a car that is equipped with a manual transmission because if you learn how to drive a manual car, then you know how to drive an automatic car; but if you learn first in an automatic car, it’s hard for you  cannot drive a manual car. So, if you want to really get the most out of your learning experience, it is a good idea to find a manual car.

The First Steps

The key to success is practice and repetition especially when you are driving a manual car. In order to get moving, you will want to obviously turn the car on but make sure the clutch is pressed in. Many cars will not turn on if the clutch is disengaged. The clutch is the left most pedal, the brake is the pedal in the middle, and the gas would be the pedal on the right. To get moving, you will want to press the clutch in all the way and put the car into first gear (the shift pattern should be either on the shift knob or near the gear stick). Once the car is in first gear, you will want to give it a little bit of gas. Look at your tachometer and rev the engine up to around 1000 or 1500 rpm then slowly release the clutch. Once you feel the car begin starting to move, you will want to give it some more gas slowly while you are still slowly releasing the clutch.

This can be tricky to get down at first, so you will want to practice this. Once you are able to get into first gear smoothly, it is the same process for every other gear. The first gear is the hardest, so make sure you can practice this without stalling the vehicle, hence the reason for being in an empty parking lot. Once you can get the car moving and be able to go through the gears smoothly, you can begin learning the other more advanced techniques such as heel-toe. These techniques will help you drive even smoother, but they are advanced and something you should not worry about right now. Just focus on being able to drive the car like it was second nature.
